Tahseen Chowdhury is a Clinician in the Department of Diabetes and Metabolism at the Royal London Hospital, in the East End of London. He runs a large specialist Diabetes and Metabolism unit, dealing with diabetes particularly amongst the Bangladeshi community of Tower Hamlets. He has a research / clinical interest in diabetes in South Asians and diabetic kidney disease, and has authored many publications, including books entitled “Diabetes in South Asian people: Explained”, “Fatty Liver” and “Diabetes Management in Clinical Practice”. He is a member of the ABCD-UKKA diabetic nephropathy interest group, the Diabetes UK annual professional conference organising committee and the British Heart Foundation CVD guideline development group. He also runs the metabolism programme for medical students at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, London. He qualified from the University of Birmingham and trained in Birmingham and Manchester, before becoming a Consultant Physician in 2000.

Caterina Conte, MD, PhD, is a Full Professor of Internal Medicine at San Raffaele Roma University in Rome and Head of the Obesity and Obesity-related Cardiometabolic Complications Research Unit and Obesity Clinic at IRCCS MultiMedica in Milan, Italy. She received her MD from Sapienza University of Rome, completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2012, and earned a PhD in Experimental Endocrine and Endocrine-Surgical Sciences from the Catholic University of Rome in 2016. Her training includes a research fellowship at the Center for Human Nutrition, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her work focuses on integrating clinical care and research to address obesity and its cardiometabolic complications, including type 2 diabetes and sarcopenic obesity. She is actively involved in national and international scientific societies, including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM), the Italian Society of Internal Medicine, and the Italian Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery for Obesity. She contributes to academic education as a contributor to the EFIM Academy and as a member of the EASD Training and Education Committee and of the Executive Board of the Italian College of Academic Internal Medicine, with a focus on improving teaching, research, and clinical practice in Internal Medicine. She has published extensively in the field of obesity and metabolism and is a strong advocate for the recognition of obesity as a disease and for comprehensive strategies for its prevention and treatment.

Dr. Ela Giladi completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Rabin Medical Center, where she later served as an attending physician in the Department of Internal Medicine. She completed her fellowship in Cardiology and subspecialty training in Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation at Meir Medical Center, Israel. She is a Lecturer at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University and is currently a Cardiac Rehabilitation Fellow at the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada.

Dr Alexandros Liarakos is a Diabetes and Endocrinology Resident and Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham. His research interests include diabetes technologies, diabetic kidney disease, inpatient diabetes care, and real-world evidence to improve outcomes for people living with diabetes. His PhD focuses on the use of diabetes technologies in clinically complex and high-risk populations, including individuals with kidney failure receiving dialysis.

He has authored multiple publications in high-impact journals and serves as an Associate Editor for Diabetic Medicine. He is actively involved in national and international organisations and collaborative initiatives, and is the current Chair of the Young Diabetologists and Endocrinologists' Forum (YDEF UK).

Dr Panagiotis Pavlou is a Specialist Registrar in Diabetes Mellitus, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine in the South London deanery and a Clinical Research Fellow at King’s College London and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He is currently undertaking a PhD focused on diabetic kidney disease, combining data-driven and clinical research.

His clinical interests include type 1 diabetes, diabetes technologies, diabetic kidney disease, complex diabetes and diabetes complications. He has extensive inpatient and outpatient experience across these domains in tertiary and district general hospital settings.

His research interests centre on improving outcomes for people with diabetes and kidney disease through real-world evidence, data-driven risk stratification, diabetes technologies and optimisation of cardiorenal-metabolic risk management. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, and he is actively involved in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching, regional diabetes and endocrinology training, guideline development, and national and international conference presentations.

Prof. David Pereg completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Meir Medical Center, Israel. He subsequently pursued an Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada.

He currently serves as Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and an Interventional Cardiologist at Meir Medical Center and is a full Professor at the Gray Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Israel.

Djordje S. Popovic is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical Faculty, University of Novi Sad, and an Endocrinologist at the Clinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders, University Clinical Center of Vojvodina. He completed both his medical degree and PhD at the Medical Faculty, University of Novi Sad, where he also trained in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.

His research primarily focuses on the treatment of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the long-term complications of diabetes, and the management of cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease in type 1 diabetes. He has a particular interest in exploring the potential role of adjunct non-insulin therapies for individuals living with type 1 diabetes.

He is a current member of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Training and Education Committee and the Senior Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation.

Kristin trained in Belfast and graduated in 2004, prior to moving to Southampton to be a junior house officer. After a 4-year period as a junior doctor in Wessex, she started renal speciality training in London and completed a PhD. During her research time, she supported a multinational clinical trial (REPAIR) and developed a passion for clinical research to improve patient care. She transferred to Portsmouth where she completed her training, and then worked as a Consultant Nephrologist for 5 years, before making the decision to retrain as a clinical academic GP. She was excited by the role of primary care in supporting improvements in population health and driving evidence-based treatments into clinical practice. She is privileged to have an NIHR funded Academic Clinical Fellowship at the University of Southampton.

She is currently leading on National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funded research to understand how we can better identify and manage people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in primary care. She is the UK Kidney Association Integrated CKD Co-Lead, sits on the UKKA CKD Special Interest Group (SIG), leads the Society for Academic Primary Care SIG, and works closely with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Integrated Care System and industry partners to support improvement projects for people living with CKD. In addition, she is the Co-Director of the Southampton Academy of Research, and leads the Research Leaders’ Programme.
